About the role


We are looking for a Visual Merchandiser to work with the Senior Visual Merchandising Manager to manage the in store strategy for our homeware department in line with the VM creative direction and focus to support the Visual Brand Strategy at Matalan.


As our Visual Merchandiser you will be responsible for:



  • Supporting the model store process and giving creative and inspiring visual guidance to the VM co-ordinators promoting a positive and innovative brand image.
  • Delivering exciting and inspirational customer focussed Visual merchandising guides and store and customer communication in line with the critical path to support the trading and marketing plan.
  • Supporting the guide phase plan and critical path to deliver the mock shop end to end set up reviews to set company standards for the Brand Director and the Divisional heads of department sign off.
  • Working collaboratively with the Senior Visual Merchandising Manager, and wider trading teams to ensure the communication strategy is on track and Visual Merchandising delivers against density and space guidelines.
  • Engaging with the relevant commercial and space reps to collate all the relevant information for the communication documents and materials to establish the priorities for each seasonal set up and end to end review.
  • Ensuring innovative and inspiring ways of working and Creative Visual Merchandising through Centre of Excellence and Academy Stores training across model stores, training area specialists and academy stores to delivery what good looks like for the brand.

About You

  • Previous experience in an Area visual merchandising or Head Office visual merchandising role, ideally within Home Retail
  • Experience in writing visual communications and creating displays or installations, in commercial or fashion creative spaces
  • Large format fashion retail experience would be beneficial
  • An understanding of space planning would be beneficial
  • Creative and commercially minded with excellent brand awareness
  • A thorough understanding of the end to end Visual Merchandising process
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with people at all levels
  • Experience using Microsoft packages including Excel & PowerPoint
  • Ability to use Adobe Photoshop
