Service Care Solutions Ltd
Finance, Benefit & Debt Mentor

Make a Real Impact. Support People from the Inside Out. Our client is seeking motivated, compassionate individuals who want to play a meaningful role in supporting people through rehabilitation. As a Mentor Advocate (Relational Mentor), you’ll work with men on probation and in prison across Cumbria and Lancashire—helping them overcome barriers related to finance, benefits, debt, and reintegration while empowering them to rebuild their lives and reduce the risk of reoffending.
This role is deeply rooted in relationship-based practice. You’ll provide consistent, person-centred support that enables growth, self-belief, and positive change. Your ability to build trust, foster accountability, and walk alongside someone through difficult transitions will be central to their progress.

Your Core Responsibilities Supporting Rehabilitation Through Relationships

  • Build strong, sustained one-to-one relationships with men in custody and on probation that are non-judgmental, respectful, and motivational.

  • Act as a positive role model, guide, and trusted advocate throughout the individual’s journey.

  • Support men as they address the root causes of offending, including financial instability, addiction, housing insecurity, and mental health.

Practical Mentoring and Guidance

  • Offer structured guidance on life skills, budgeting, accessing benefits, managing debt, and preparing for release and reintegration.

  • Help individuals access key services including housing, employment, health, and substance misuse support.

Advocacy and Multi-Agency Work

  • Advocate on behalf of individuals in multi-agency meetings with probation teams, prison staff, police, courts, local charities, social services, and housing providers.

  • Navigate complex systems with individuals to ensure their voice is heard and rights are upheld.

Planning, Risk Management, and Administration

  • Co-produce tailored action plans with measurable goals to promote stability and progress.

  • Identify safeguarding concerns and escalate in line with organisational procedures.

  • Maintain clear, timely, and accurate records and case notes using internal systems.

What We’re Looking For You don’t need a degree or experience in the criminal justice system to apply. Full training and supervision will be provided. What matters most is your values, motivation, and willingness to support people through change.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Empathetic and non-judgmental, with a strong desire to help others improve their lives

  • Reliable and organised, able to manage a varied caseload independently

  • A confident communicator, comfortable working across diverse environments, including prisons and community settings

  • Passionate about rehabilitation, social inclusion, and giving people a second chance

  • Driving licence holder with daily access to a car – this role requires regular travel across Cumbria and Lancashire

  • Home broadband access, as part of the role includes hybrid working (one WFH day per week)

Experience in mentoring, youth work, social care, or custodial settings is beneficial but not essential.

Why Work with Our Client? Our client is a values-led organisation working at the heart of justice system transformation. You’ll join a supportive team committed to making lasting, community-based change and promoting rehabilitation through relational, person-centred work.

You’ll Benefit From:

  • A meaningful, impact-driven role focused on long-term rehabilitation and safer communities

  • Full training and development with reflective practice and team support

  • Flexible working options, including remote admin time and autonomy over planning your week

  • 25 days of annual leave plus 10 bank holidays (with flexibility over 6 of them)

  • Paid volunteer days to support causes that matter to you

  • Travel expenses covered and a strong workplace pension scheme

  • The opportunity to be part of a movement that’s redefining what justice looks like—from the inside out
