Job Purpose
Providing legal advice to clients on matters involving property disputes and consumer contract disputes & assisting other fee earners within the Home LEI team as and when required.

Key Responsibilities
- Advising clients on matters such as merits, prospects of success and proportionality, and carrying out an initial prospects assessment for each;
- Interpreting the terms of a Home LEI policies and ensuring matters fall within scope of the policy and advising clients appropriately;
- Providing verbal and written advice to clients on matters of a consumer/contract law, property disputes ( in so far as they are covered by the LEI policy );
- Once a claim is accepted thereafter handling a caseload of generally pre litigated matters, collating evidence, expert reports, and details of losses sustained. Liaising with potential Defendants and bringing those cases to a conclusion;
- Escalating more complex or litigated cases to a more specialist handler as and when necessary;
- Providing general support and technical/legal support to the Home/LEI team on litigated and non-litigated matters as and when required;
- Instructing Counsel if and when necessary;
- Deal with claims ensuring a client focused service is provided;
- Progress claims in a timely manner in accordance with the CPR, and SLAs in place;
- Take a pragmatic commercial approach to settlements and advising clients as to litigation/cost risks.
- Assisting other fee earners within the Home LEI team as and when required to ensure smooth progression of claims (including general alternative tasks).
- Paralegal or Member of Fellow of CILEx with experience in property and consumer/contract law.
- Have a good working knowledge of general legal matters and any relevant case law and/or legislation and progressing claims/disputes in a timely manner;
- Commercially minded, and able to see opportunities to optimise commercial relationships and opportunities and outcomes on cases, both for the client and the firm.
- Excellent IT skills with a sound working knowledge of Visual Files or a similar case management system and essential MS Office knowledge. Working knowledge of other PC software and interpretation of management information reports.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, with a calm and methodical approach to work, and a flexible and adaptable attitude to resolving issues.
