  • Outside IR35 (negotiable rate)

We’re supporting an organisation undergoing a major transformation across its IT and technology function.

We are looking for an interim Head of Development to lead and stabilise an established internal engineering team during a key period of change and evolution. This role is ideally suited to someone who combines strong technical leadership with a highly people-focused approach.

The Role

You’ll lead a team of around 10 developers within a product-focused engineering environment, helping guide the function through a period of transformation while maintaining stability across delivery. The focus will be evolving the capability, improving ways of working, mentoring the team, and supporting a roadmap centred around integrations and low-code/no-code innovation.

A major part of the role is around leadership, coaching, and helping the team successfully navigate change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a development team of circa 10 engineers
  • Steady and stabilise the function during organisational change
  • Drive engineering best practices and team development
  • Conduct performance management, coaching, and feedback
  • Support delivery across a product-led engineering environment
  • Help shape the evolution towards low-code/no-code capabilities
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders and IT leadership
  • Improve team cohesion, communication, and engineering culture
  • Support integration-focused development initiatives

What They’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience leading engineering or development teams
  • Experience managing teams through change or transformation
  • Strong mentoring and people leadership capability
  • Comfortable operating in smaller, collaborative environments
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

The Culture:

This is a collaborative, down-to-earth environment with strong personalities but no ego. The business values people who are approachable, engaging, and capable of building trust quickly.

You’ll be joining at an important point in their transformation journey with the opportunity to make a genuine impact across both technology and people.
