Accountable Recruitment

Financial Controller
Liverpool (Hybrid)

£55,500 - £70,000

We are partnering with a growing organisation seeking a qualified Financial Controller with a strong background in financial controls, risk, and governance. This is a high-impact role where you will take ownership of the financial control environment, driving improvements and ensuring robust, scalable processes across a complex and evolving business.

If you're a qualified accountant with experience in audit, risk, or internal controls and want to step into a broader, more commercially aligned leadership role, this is an excellent opportunity.

The Role
Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will lead the financial control framework, ensuring strong financial reporting integrity, effective risk management, and solid governance.

This is a hands-on role combining technical oversight with process improvement, control design, and operational leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and enhance the financial control framework, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting through robust, well-documented controls
  • Manage risk identification and mitigation, maintaining the finance risk register
  • Drive improvements across finance processes, identifying control gaps and inefficiencies
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and tax requirements
  • Act as the key contact for internal and external audit, resolving findings effectively
  • Embed controls within systems and support finance transformation initiatives
  • Oversee treasury, payments, and banking controls, including approvals and access governance
  • Partner with senior stakeholders to provide insight and challenge on risk and control matters
  • Support business change by ensuring controls are designed and implemented from the outset

About You

You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with experience in financial control, audit, or risk within a complex environment.

You'll bring:

  • Strong knowledge of financial controls and risk assurance
  • Experience improving control frameworks and governance
  • Understanding of financial reporting risks and compliance
  • Ability to identify weaknesses and drive practical improvements
  • Experience working with audit functions
  • Confidence to influence and challenge senior stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

Why Apply?

  • This is an opportunity to step into a Financial Controller role with real ownership of the control environment. You'll shape and strengthen processes, support growth, and drive meaningful change.
  • The organisation offers hybrid working, flexibility, and strong development opportunities with high exposure to senior leadership.

If you're a controls-focused finance professional looking for a Financial Controller role with real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
