Duties
- Confidently and independently chair all Looked After Children (LAC) Reviews, Child Protection Conferences, Strategy Meetings, and Secure Accommodation Reviews.
- Ensure that care plans for looked after children are based on detailed, informed, and up-to-date assessments that effectively address the child's specific needs.
- Set clear timescales and identify exactly who is responsible for securing the objectives outlined in the child's care plan
- Oversee the efficient production, distribution, and routine updating of comprehensive child protection plans.
- Regularly audit, monitor, and quality-assure case files and care plans to minimise risk, eliminate drift, and maintain best practice across children's services.
- Lead and co-ordinate investigations into safeguarding concerns or unexpected changes (e.g., placement instability, missing from care episodes, or Child Sexual Exploitation risks)
- Consult directly with the child or young person about their Care Plan before reviews or whenever significant changes are proposed.
- Guarantee that the child's wishes, feelings, and views are not only heard but heavily considered and acted upon by the local authority.
- Act as a consistent, independent point of contact for the child, ensuring they know how to reach the IRO via text, phone, or email.
- Confidently and respectfully challenge social work teams, senior managers, or partner agencies if care planning is drifting, or if poor practice and service delivery gaps are identified.
- Build and maintain robust working relationships across external partners (e.g., education, health, Merseyside Police, and CAFCASS) to ensure integrated care.
- Implement formal dispute resolution processes when the local authority fails to meet its statutory duties toward a child.
Revelant Qualifications / requirements:
- Social work England Registration
- Social Work Qualification
- Clear DBS
- 3+ years permanent local authority experience.
