We are seeking a SENCO to lead our large SEN department within a secondary mainstream school. This SENCO role involves managing a team that includes a SEND Manager, LSAs, and Assistant SENCOs. The ideal candidate will have experience in a secondary school setting, demonstrating strong leadership in strategic development and staff training.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Direct and evaluate the work of LSAs assigned to pupils with SEND needs in the secondary phase.
• Support the writing, development, and evaluation of the school’s SEND policies ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and local and national best practice guidance.
• Maintain an accurate and up-to-date SEND Register and ensure that records of all pupils with SEND are kept up-to-date.
• Manage, maintain, and evaluate provision mapping.
• Coordinate the specific provision made to support individual pupils in the secondary phase with SEN, including those who have EHC plans.
• Coordinate the programme of SEND assessment to identify pupils’ needs.
• Monitor and track the progress of pupils with SEND in the secondary phase.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a SENCO in a secondary school environment.
• Strong understanding of SEND policies and statutory requirements.
• Ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
• Excellent communication and liaison skills to work with parents, external agencies, and educational professionals.
• Experience in managing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and maintaining accurate provision records.
