Product Buyer
Full-time | Permanent | Site-based - South Liverpool
Reed is recruiting on behalf of an established product-led manufacturing business seeking a Product Buyer to join its operations team.
This is a varied, commercially focused role combining buying, demand planning, stock management, supplier relationships and international logistics. You’ll use sales, stock and operational data to make informed purchasing decisions and ensure products and materials are available when required.
The Role
Working across purchasing and supply chain, you will:
- Analyse sales trends, customer demand, stock levels and supplier lead times to identify future purchasing requirements
- Maintain forecasts and replenishment plans across finished products, raw materials, packaging and components
- Manage purchase orders from initial requirement and supplier confirmation through to delivery and receipt
- Monitor stock levels, highlighting potential shortages, excess inventory and slow-moving products
- Use SKU and product performance data to inform replenishment, buying and range decisions
- Source products and materials, obtaining and comparing supplier quotations
- Negotiate pricing, MOQs, lead times, payment terms and delivery arrangements
- Build strong supplier relationships and address issues relating to availability, quality, cost or late deliveries
- Coordinate international shipments with suppliers, freight forwarders, couriers and customs partners
- Prepare and check relevant import/export and shipping documentation
- Support production requirements by ensuring appropriate materials and components are available against manufacturing schedules
- Maintain accurate product, purchasing, supplier and stock information within ERP/MRP systems
- Produce Excel-based reports covering forecasts, inventory, purchasing activity and supplier performance
- Work collaboratively with commercial, production, warehouse, finance and other internal teams
- Identify opportunities to improve purchasing and supply chain processes through stronger data and more efficient ways of working
What We’re Looking For
You’ll ideally bring:
- Experience within Buying, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Demand Planning, Merchandising or a similar role
- Hands-on experience managing suppliers and purchase orders
- Good knowledge of stock management, replenishment, lead times, MOQs and landed costs
- Strong supplier negotiation and commercial skills
- Confident Excel skills, including experience analysing larger sets of data
- Previous experience using an ERP or MRP system
- Exposure to international freight, import/export processes or shipping documentation
- Understanding of areas such as Incoterms, commercial invoices, commodity codes and customs information
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail
Experience within FMCG, consumer goods, beauty, packaging or manufacturing would be particularly relevant. Exposure to own-brand/private-label products, e-commerce, wholesale or new product launches would also be advantageous.
