Family & Community Support Worker - #2151807

We are looking for a caring, reliable and confident Family & Community Support Worker to support children and young people and give families some much-needed support and respite.

This is a role where no two days are the same. You could be supporting a child out in the community, taking them to activities, helping them try something new, or simply spending time with them while giving their parent or carer respite.

We are particularly looking for someone who has experience supporting children and young people with Autism, ADHD and other neurodivergent needs, including children who may sometimes display challenging or physical behaviour.

What will you be doing?

The role will vary depending on the child and their individual needs, but may include:

• Supporting children and young people in the community
• Taking them to activities, parks, clubs and places they enjoy
• Providing respite for parents and carers
• Helping children build confidence and independence
• Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour
• Helping children take part in activities and experiences
• Building a positive and trusting relationship with the child
• Following individual support plans and strategies
• Communicating with parents/carers about how the child has been
• Keeping the child safe and making sure they are supported in a way that works for them

The person we're looking for

We are looking for someone who is patient, calm, compassionate and genuinely enjoys working with children and young people.

You should be someone who can stay calm when things become difficult and understand that behaviour is often a way of communicating that something isn't right.

Experience with Autism, ADHD, SEND, neurodiversity, challenging behaviour or physical behaviour would be really valuable.

• Is confident supporting children who may display physical or challenging behaviour
• Has experience with, or a good understanding of, Autism and ADHD
• Is reliable and dependable
• Is comfortable working independently
• Can think on their feet and adapt to different situations
• Has good communication skills
• Understands the importance of safeguarding and professional boundaries
• Can build a genuine relationship with a child
• Doesn't give up when things don't go to plan

DBS & Safeguarding

As you will be working directly with children and young people, an Enhanced DBS check is required for this role.

Appropriate references and safeguarding checks will also be completed as part of the recruitment process.
