City: Liverpool
Contract type: Full time
Protein Works

We are seeking a qualified Engineering & Facilities Technician to join our Protein Works team, ensuring our site and production equipment run reliably and correctly. This is a high-impact, multi-faceted opportunity where you won't just maintain equipment, you will drive site reliability, master complex infrastructure, and ensure operational excellence across a fast-paced, regulated food manufacturing environment.

As a key player in a close-knit engineering team, you will experience the full end-to-end operational lifecycle. Rather than just taking work orders, you will spearhead root-cause diagnostics, research technical solutions, manage supplier and contractor relationships, and drive data-backed improvements through our CMMS. Here, you get true autonomy and end-to-end ownership of your workload.

Ideal for a reliability-focused engineer seeking comprehensive exposure, this role offers hands-on involvement with cutting-edge machinery, critical site infrastructure, and automated systems. You will gain broad, well-rounded experience while running solo shifts, providing an unmatched platform to showcase your problem-solving expertise, self-motivation, and technical leadership.

Key Qualifications required:

Time-Served Apprenticeship - NVQ Level 3 engineer in relevant disciplines (Electrical/Mechanical/Maintenance)

Shift rotation: Monday to Friday, rotating weekly across three shifts:
  • Earlies: 6am to 2:30pm
  • Mids: 7:30am to 4pm
  • Lates: 2pm to 10:30pm

What you'll be doing:
  • Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on production equipment and site infrastructure, in line with food safety and H&S requirements
  • Taking a reliability-first approach: assessing and researching faults, finding root causes and stopping repeat failures
  • Managing your own jobs end to end, including ordering parts, chasing suppliers and tracking progress
  • Coordinating and overseeing specialist contractors for HVAC, lifts, MHE and other key infrastructure
  • Keeping maintenance records accurate and audit ready in our CMMS (eMaint), supporting BRCGS and internal audits
  • Managing spare parts stock so critical components are available without overstocking
  • Using data and KPIs to spot failure trends and reduce downtime
  • Supporting and upskilling machine operators so they use equipment safely and well
  • Driving continuous improvement across site reliability
  • Working with the Technical, IT, Operations and Engineering teams to keep maintenance aligned with production
  • Promoting a safety-first culture in everything you do

What we're looking for:
  • Qualified Time-Served Engineer in a relevant discipline (Electrical/ Mechanical/ Maintenance)
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • At least 3 years' post-qualification experience in FMCG, pharma, food or a similar regulated manufacturing environment (experience in smaller businesses is a real plus)
  • Hands-on experience with CMMS, ideally including setting it up or integrating it
  • Confident with IT and Excel, and comfortable with the admin side of the job
  • Self-driven and organised, able to plan and prioritise your own work without supervision
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a methodical, research-led approach
  • Good understanding of H&S in manufacturing
  • A clear communicator who works well with teams across the business

What you will get:
  • Exclusive staff discounts
  • Private healthcare
  • Birthday day off
  • Pension scheme
  • Unique bonus scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Access to retail discounts
  • Staff socials and events
  • State of the art PW Campus
  • Refreshments on site

About Protein Works:

Founded in 2012 on a clear conviction: the sports nutrition industry had become complacent, and there was a better way to do it. Over a decade later, we are a £50m business with five consecutive years of double-digit growth, a brand new £10m campus in Liverpool, and ambitions that go well beyond where we are today.

We are a brand, a retailer, a manufacturer and a fulfilment operation. All in-house, all under one roof. That breadth is deliberate. It gives our people exposure and influence that most businesses simply cannot offer, and it gives us a platform to scale in a way that few companies in this space can match.

We are growing, investing and hiring with purpose. If you want to join a business with the energy of a challenger and the foundations of a market leader, this is the right moment to do it.
