Are You Ready to Work Across the Full Cosmetic Product Journey?
We are looking for an experienced, practical Cosmetic Laboratory & Regulatory Technologist to work across formulation, testing, manufacturing support and product compliance. This is not a desk-only regulatory role. You will make and assess batches, run tests and panels, support production, maintain technical and compliance records, and speak directly with private-label clients about their products and regulatory requirements.
If you enjoy being hands-on in the laboratory, understand how cosmetic products move from formula to commercial manufacture, and can combine practical technical work with disciplined compliance and confident client communication, this role offers genuine breadth and ownership.
What You'll Be Doing
Laboratory Formulation & Batch Work (25%)
Prepare laboratory, pilot and authorised production batches accurately from controlled formulas and manufacturing instructions.
Refine, troubleshoot and evaluate formulas, ingredients, processing methods and batch characteristics using structured technical records.
Assess appearance, odour, colour, pH, viscosity, density, homogeneity, application and other relevant product characteristics.
Testing, Evaluation & Product Panels (20%)
Plan and run stability, compatibility, performance, and product evaluation programmes, recording results clearly and consistently.
Organise and assess structured professional or consumer product panels, capturing useful feedback and translating findings into technical actions.
Coordinate microbiological, challenge, analytical and specialist external testing where required.
Manufacturing, Scale-Up & Troubleshooting (15%)
Support scale-up from laboratory and pilot batches into reliable commercial production.
Investigate batch variation, technical complaints and unexpected results using evidence and structured records.
Work with production and quality teams to ensure formulas, methods and specifications are practical and consistently followed.
Regulatory & Product Compliance (20%)
Maintain day-to-day compliance across our own-brand, private-label and OEM cosmetic portfolios in the UK and EU.
Review INCI, labels, artwork, claims, warnings, product files and relevant notification information.
Coordinate information with safety assessors, Responsible Persons, laboratories, and suppliers, and track actions through to completion.
Private-Label Client Technical Support (10%)
Speak directly with private-label and OEM clients about formulas, testing, artwork, claims and compliance requirements.
Explain technical and regulatory requirements clearly so clients know what is needed to keep projects moving.
Support customer handovers and product changes with clear records of technical decisions and approvals.
Quality Systems & GMP (10%)
Support cosmetic GMP, change control, deviations, CAPA, complaints, audits and retained-sample controls.
Maintain disciplined technical document control and ensure current approved information is used.
Help investigate recurring technical or quality issues and follow through on corrective actions to closure.
Technical Records & Continuous Improvement (10%)
Maintain formulas, specifications, manufacturing instructions, batch records, test reports, product files and trackers.
Use test results and manufacturing feedback to improve formulas, processes and controls.
Keep technical data accurate, traceable and usable across laboratory, production, quality and commercial teams.
What We're Looking For
Essential
Hands-on formulation, laboratory or product-development experience in cosmetics, personal care or a closely related manufacturing environment.
Practical experience making batches and evaluating formulas, ingredients, processing methods and finished-product characteristics.
Experience running or managing stability, compatibility, performance, panel or microbiological testing with disciplined result recording.
Working knowledge of UK and EU cosmetics compliance, including INCI, labels, claims, product files, notifications and GMP.
Confidence working with production teams and supporting scale-up, troubleshooting or commercial manufacture.
Strong technical writing, document control, spreadsheet and data-handling skills with excellent attention to detail.
Clear, confident communication with customers, suppliers, laboratories and colleagues, including explaining technical or compliance requirements.
Willingness to work predominantly from our Liverpool manufacturing site and to move regularly between the laboratory, production floor and office.
Desirable
Experience within private-label, OEM, contract cosmetics manufacturing or an own-brand cosmetics manufacturer.
Experience with professional lash, brow, hair-treatment, salon-use or other technically led cosmetic products.
Practical knowledge of SCPN, CPNP, PIF/CPSR workflows, cosmetic GMP or ISO 22716.
Experience in packaging compatibility, claims substantiation, scale-up, deviations, CAPA or production troubleshooting.
Experience dealing directly with private-label customers, safety assessors, Responsible Persons or external testing laboratories.
What Makes This Role Different
This is not a one-dimensional laboratory or regulatory position. You'll be:
A Hands-On Laboratory Technologist - making batches, evaluating formulas and solving product problems.
A Product Tester - running stability, compatibility, performance and panel programmes.
A Manufacturing Partner - moving products from bench work through scale-up into production.
A Compliance Owner - maintaining the records behind own-brand and customer products.
A Client-Facing Technical Specialist - helping private-label customers understand what is required.
What We Offer
A competitive salary, dependent on experience.
A varied role combining laboratory work, manufacturing, testing, compliance and customer contact.
Direct involvement in own-brand, private-label and OEM products.
Work across the product journey from laboratory concept through to commercial manufacture.
A collaborative environment with direct access to technical, production, quality and commercial teams.
Scope to improve products, processes and technical systems within professional cosmetics manufacturing.
