Head of People & Culture
Liverpool | Full-time, on-site | £75,000 – £85,000
The company
An FCA-regulated consumer financial services business in Liverpool. It’s growing, has around 50 staff, and is hiring its first dedicated Head of People & Culture.
The role
Right now the people function runs on a shared basis. The business wants someone to take it over completely and build it properly. You’ll report directly to the SLT, so you’ll have real ownership and a seat at the table.
This isn’t a role for keeping things ticking over. The business needs a proper overhaul of its culture and ways of working, so it needs someone confident enough to set the standard and hold people to it.
Key responsibilities
- Taking full ownership of the people agenda, from strategy to day-to-day
- Defining the culture and working standards: expectations, performance, conduct and how the team operates on the phones and in writing
- Choosing and rolling out a new HR and performance management system, from requirements and vendor selection through to adoption
- Building line manager capability across the business
- Leading serious ER casework personally, including grievances, misconduct and harassment and bullying investigations, all run fairly and defensibly
- Working closely with Compliance and Legal so people policy holds up under regulatory scrutiny, including Consumer Duty and conduct risk
- Improving recruitment, onboarding and retention, and giving leadership real data on engagement and culture
What you’ll bring
- A track record of running HR or People end-to-end in a business of a similar size, without a big team behind you
- Ideally a background in a contact centre or customer service environment
- Regulated sector experience. Fintech or financial services would be ideal
- Hands-on experience leading serious ER investigations, with outcomes you can talk through
- Evidence that you’ve changed a culture before and can show what improved
- Strong, current knowledge of UK employment law, and the confidence to make calls without waiting on external legal advice every time
- Confidence on compliance and governance
- The gravitas to manage upwards, challenge senior leaders when it matters, and know which battles to pick
- CIPD Level 7 or equivalent senior experience
The details
- Five days a week on-site in Liverpool while the culture is being built, with scope to review this further down the line
- Three-stage interview process, with interviews starting immediately
