Head of HR

Liverpool | Full-time, on-site | £75,000 – £85,000

The company

An FCA-regulated consumer financial services business in Liverpool. It has around 50 staff, it’s growing, and it’s hiring its first dedicated Head of HR.

The role

HR currently runs on a shared basis. The business needs someone to take full ownership and build the function properly. You’ll report directly to the President and COO, and you’ll be the senior HR voice in the business.

This is a hands-on role with plenty of variety. One day you’ll be running a serious misconduct investigation, and the next you’ll be rolling out a new performance management framework. There’s also a real job to do on culture and ways of working, so you’ll need the confidence to set standards and see them through.

Key responsibilities

  • Owning the full HR function end-to-end, including policy, process, ER, performance, recruitment and onboarding
  • Leading serious ER casework personally: disciplinaries, grievances, misconduct, and harassment and bullying investigations
  • Choosing and implementing a new HRIS and performance management system, then owning its rollout and adoption
  • Making sure HR policy and governance are compliant and audit-ready, working closely with Compliance and Legal
  • Advising leadership on employment law, conduct risk and Consumer Duty implications
  • Building line manager capability so managers can handle performance and conduct issues properly
  • Shaping culture and ways of working, and putting clear standards in place across the business
  • Producing HR reporting on absence, retention, engagement and casework trends

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience as a Head of HR, HR Manager or senior HRBP running HR end-to-end in an SME (circa 50–250 staff)
  • Strong, current UK employment law knowledge, and the confidence to make calls without always waiting for legal sign-off
  • Hands-on experience leading complex ER investigations, with outcomes you can talk through
  • Experience in a regulated environment. Financial services or fintech is ideal
  • Contact centre or customer service experience would be a real advantage
  • Experience implementing an HR system or performance management process
  • The gravitas to manage upwards and challenge senior leaders when it matters
  • CIPD Level 7 or equivalent senior experience

The details

  • Five days a week on-site in Liverpool, with scope to review this further down the line
  • Reports to the exec board
