3D Spatial Web Developer - #2171032
MediSites360
Want to use your development skills to make hospital visits less frightening for children and their families?
At MediSites360, you’ll help build immersive 3D experiences that let patients explore hospital spaces, understand what to expect and arrive feeling more prepared, this particularly helps neurodivergent children who may find unfamiliar environments overwhelming.
Our flagship project is already live at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, an internationally recognised centre for children’s healthcare ranked among the world’s top 20 specialist children’s hospitals. Joining our small, ambitious team, you will have a direct hand in developing technology that supports NHS services and makes a meaningful difference to patients’ lives, with the potential to extend that impact worldwide.
The Role
Working alongside our Technical Director and our Platform & Cloud Engineer, you will lead the front-end 3D spatial architecture of our new platform.
This role is centred on rendering immersive 3D environments across multiple formats including Matterport renders and 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) workflows. You will co-develop the spatial rendering engine, system dashboards and user functionality, building a high-performance browser interface that makes creating, enhancing and navigating interactive hospital environments seamless, accessible, and reassuring.
A Collaborative Engineering Approach
We don't believe in rigid, siloed handovers. You will work in tight partnership with our Platform & Cloud Engineer to co-develop our end-to-end rendering workflows. While the backend engineer handles hardware integration, compute pipelines, platform performance and security, you will actively shape how spatial data, computer vision models, and 3D editing functionality such as virtual staging and guided experiences are created, customised and rendered on the client side.
What You Will Be Doing (And Learning)
There will be a steep, exciting learning curve. We don’t expect you to know everything on day one, but we expect a high-velocity learner who thrives on solving novel Web3D challenges.
● 3D Spatial Web Development: Architect high-performance, browser-native 3D viewers using WebGL, WebGPU, and Three.js (or React Three Fiber / PlayCanvas) to stream and render complex environments.
● Multi-Format 3D Pipelines: Build workflows that handle diverse 3D datasets, blending traditional spatial formats and Matterport SDKs with emerging Gaussian Splatting technology and standard 3D meshes (.GLTF/.GLB).
● Collaborative Workflow & Vision Integration: Work closely with the Platform & Cloud Engineer to integrate machine learning models such as YOLOv8 into our processing and rendering pipelines for automated spatial identification, scene segmentation, and feature mapping.
● Interactive Overlay Architecture: Design and build a crisp, modern React/TypeScript interface that sits directly on top of the 3D canvas, powering interactive hotspots, wayfinding nodes, dynamic clinical content, and multi-language accessibility features.
● Virtual Staging & Occlusion: Implement dynamic 3D asset placement, depth sorting, and occlusion handling so virtual signage, equipment, and wayfinding elements blend realistically into physical environments.
● Performance Optimisation: Implement progressive loading, level-of-detail (LOD) strategies, and memory management to ensure complex 3D scenes render at high framerates across all desktop and mobile browsers.
Who You Are
● Educated & Driven: A graduate (Master's preferred) in Computer Science, Spatial Computing, or a related field with a deep passion for 3D web graphics and modern software architecture.
● 3D Web Proficiency: Strong experience or evidenced project work using WebGL, Three.js, WebGPU, or WebGL-based frameworks.
● Computer Vision Interest (Preferred): Familiarity or hands-on experience with object detection and spatial segmentation models like YOLOv8 is highly desirable.
● Collaborative Builder: You enjoy pairing with backend and infrastructure developers to solve end-to-end pipeline challenges rather than working in isolation.
● Product-Minded & Confident: You have the confidence to challenge convention, propose modern architectural patterns, challenge briefs and build UI/UX that non-technical users love to use.
Applicants must have the right to undertake this role in the UK by their start date. Any offer of employment will be conditional on satisfactory right-to-work checks, and the successful candidate will be required to provide appropriate evidence. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
Why Join Us?
This is a career-defining opportunity. By helping us build a proprietary, IP-owned 3D rendering platform from the ground up, your career will scale directly with the success of the platform.
We offer a competitive salary, a supportive environment where innovation is encouraged, and the opportunity to build technology that genuinely calms anxious patients and young children before important hospital visits.
