Job Type: Permanent

About the Company

Our client is an established construction business with a strong focus on commercial performance, quality project delivery and building lasting relationships with clients and supply-chain partners.

As the business continues to develop its project portfolio, they are looking to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team and take responsibility for the financial and contractual management of construction projects.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially aware Quantity Surveyor with approximately 5-10 years' experience to take ownership of project commercial activities, manage costs and maximise financial performance.

The successful candidate will have experience working with NEC forms of contract and be confident managing project costs, subcontractor accounts, applications for payment, variations and final accounts. You will work closely with operational teams and key stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and in line with agreed commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the commercial management of construction projects from procurement through to final account.

  • Prepare, submit and negotiate applications for payment, ensuring payments are accurate and submitted within contractual timescales.

  • Manage project budgets, cost forecasts, cash flow and financial reporting.

  • Monitor project expenditure, identify commercial risks and implement appropriate cost-control measures.

  • Manage subcontractor procurement, commercial negotiations, payments and final accounts.

  • Assess, value and negotiate variations, compensation events and changes to the scope of works.

  • Administer NEC contracts, ensuring contractual obligations, notices and procedures are followed.

  • Work closely with project managers, site teams and senior management to maintain commercial control.

  • Identify opportunities to improve project profitability and manage commercial risks effectively.

  • Prepare and present regular cost reports, forecasts and commercial updates.

  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with contractual and company procedures.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and consultants.

  • Support the resolution of commercial issues and protect the company's contractual and financial position.

About You

  • Approximately 5-10 years' experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction industry.

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline is desirable.

  • Practical experience working with NEC forms of contract.

  • Strong knowledge of commercial management, cost control, procurement and financial reporting.

  • Experience managing subcontractor accounts, variations, compensation events and final accounts.

  • Confident negotiating with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management abilities.

  • Able to manage competing priorities, work independently and take ownership of commercial responsibilities.

  • A proactive, commercially focused approach with a clear understanding of project profitability and risk.

What's on Offer?

  • Salary of £45,000 - £58,000, depending on experience.

  • Additional package and benefits.

  • Responsibility for the commercial management of construction projects.

  • The opportunity to work with NEC contracts and develop your commercial expertise.

  • A professional environment offering scope for continued career development.
