We're working with a large-scale organisation undergoing significant technology transformation and investment, seeking an Observability Engineer to lead and mature its observability capability across infrastructure, platforms, networks and applications.

The Role

As the Observability Engineer, you'll take ownership of the monitoring and observability landscape, ensuring critical services are measurable, visible and proactively managed through effective telemetry, alerting, reporting and analytics.

Working closely with Service Delivery, Infrastructure and Engineering teams, you'll embed observability best practices across both existing and new services, enabling data-driven decision making and continuous service improvement.

You'll be responsible for developing meaningful dashboards, optimising alerting strategies, supporting incident resolution, and driving operational excellence through improved visibility and insight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and continuously improve enterprise-wide observability capabilities.
  • Manage and optimise monitoring, telemetry and alerting platforms.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting that provide meaningful operational insights.
  • Support incident, problem and major incident processes through effective monitoring and analysis.
  • Establish observability standards and best practices across technology teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement through trend analysis and service performance data.
  • Support service transitions, ensuring observability is embedded from day one.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for observability and monitoring technologies.

About You

You'll possess strong technical knowledge across infrastructure, cloud platforms and enterprise technologies, alongside hands-on experience building and operating observability solutions within complex environments.

You'll have experience with:

  • Observability, monitoring and telemetry platforms.
  • Metrics, logs and distributed tracing.
  • Dashboard creation, alerting and reporting.
  • Infrastructure, network and application performance monitoring.
  • Hybrid technology environments incorporating on-premise and cloud platforms.
  • Service availability, resilience and operational performance improvement.
  • Incident management, root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

Experience supporting technologies such as Azure, VMware, Hyper-V, Veeam, dHCI platforms and enterprise infrastructure environments would be highly advantageous.

What's in it for You?

This is an opportunity to join a business investing heavily in technology, transformation and operational excellence. You'll play a key role in shaping observability strategy and capabilities, working alongside experienced technology professionals in an environment that values innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.

In return, you'll receive:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Generous annual leave allowance
  • Excellent pension contribution
  • Flexible benefits scheme
  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities
  • Career progression within a growing technology function
  • Supportive and collaborative working environment

If you're passionate about observability, operational excellence and using data to improve service performance, we'd love to hear from you.
