Mechanical Engineer - Liverpool

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world. Are you passionate about building a more sustainable future? At Arup we work to find solutions for some of the world’s most complex problems – providing expertise across all areas of the built environment from strategic approach and planning to design and engineering.

The opportunity

As a Mechanical Building Services Engineer, you will play a key role in our Building Services Engineering team, contributing to multidisciplinary projects. You’ll provide guidance to graduates and oversee the work and development of apprentices involved in your projects. Based in our Liverpool city centre office, you’ll be part of a team of over 20 MEP engineers and technicians, working collaboratively with other engineering teams across the wider Arup North Property team.

The role will see you:

Contribute to all stages of projects—from feasibility to completion—across sectors such as advanced manufacturing, healthcare, data centres, education, energy, sport, commercial, and mixed-use developments.

Help clients progress toward zero carbon goals through innovative and sustainable design.

Support Arup’s digital transformation by exploring automation and integrated digital design solutions.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We’re looking for a candidate who:

  • Ideally has an MEng degree in Mechanical, Architectural, or Building Services Engineering and is working towards obtaining Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution (e.g., IMechE or CIBSE).
  • Brings experience in Mechanical Building Services design for medium to large-scale projects, including calculations and report writing.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of low or zero carbon technologies and UK Building Regulations/CIBSE design guidance.
  • Is proficient in BIM environments, particularly using Revit, and has experience with dynamic thermal modelling (preferably IES).
  • Is enthusiastic about working across a diverse range of projects and sectors & is experienced enough to be able to mentor and provide guidance to more junior members of the team.

What we offer you

At Arup, we care about each member’s success, so we can grow together. Guided by our values, we provide an attractive total reward package that recognises the contribution of each of our members to our shared success. As well as competitive, fair and equitable pay, we offer a career in which all of our members can belong, grow and thrive – through benefits that support health and wellbeing, a wide range of learning opportunities and many possibilities to have an impact through the work they do.

We are owned in trust on behalf of our members, giving us the freedom, with personal responsibility, to set our own direction and choose work that aligns with our purpose and adds to Arup’s legacy. Our members collaborate on ambitious projects to deliver remarkable outcomes for our clients and communities. Profit Share is a key part of our reward, enabling members to share in the results of our collective efforts. We also provide Private medical insurance, Life assurance, Accident insurance and Income protection cover. In addition, you’ll have access to flexible benefits to help you look after all aspects of your wellbeing and give you the freedom and flexibility to find the best solutions for you, your family, and your individual needs.
