Business Intelligence Manager - #2187921
Cubiq Recruitment
Business Intelligence Manager - Data & Insights - Liverpool (Hybrid)
This organisation delivers government-funded employment, wellbeing, assessment and support contracts across the UK. Data and analytics sit at the centre of how that work gets evidenced, funded and improved, and this role leads this function.
The role
You'll manage a Machine Learning Engineer & Data Scientist plus providing leadership across the wider analytics team. You don't need to be hands-on with the tech stack (Snowflake, Azure, Fabric, Databricks). What you do need is the judgement to steer the team direction; knowing which problems are worth solving, when a model is ready to trust and where the data can add value to the teams.
The bigger part of the job is translation and influence. You’ll work across operational divisions to understand how each part of the business actually runs, then turn that into analytics and reporting that non-technical stakeholders can act on, not just dashboards nobody opens. You will present to the board and drive the success of the department.
What you’ll do
- Lead and develop a Machine Learning Engineer and Data Scientist; provide matrix direction to the wider analytics team
- Act as the translator between technical output and commercial/operational decision-making
- Build relationships across divisions to understand what each part of the business needs from data
- Present insight and recommendations at Board level
- Own the commercial view of the tech stack
- Keep the analytics roadmap tied to measurable business and contract outcomes
What we’re looking for
- Experience with direct line managing technical specialists (data science, ML, or similar)
- Strong stakeholder management -comfortable translating technical work for commercial and operational audiences, up to Board level
- Commercial awareness of data/analytics platform costs and where to hold the line on spend
- A broad, outcomes-first view of what analytics is for, rather than a tool-first one
We’re genuinely open on industry background. Candidates from universities, government, or other public-sector/government-funded environments tend to fit well here - the accountability and multi-stakeholder working style translates directly.
Working pattern: Wednesday each week in the Liverpool office, remote the rest of the time, plus one additional day per month in Liverpool (scheduled by the team) and occasional travel to other operational offices in the UK.
