Belvedere Academy

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Subject Leader of PSHE & Citizenship to join our outstanding school.

PSHE is taught across Y7-11 as a stand alone subject, with Citizenship delivered to all students as a GCSE. Both PSHE and Citizenship are delivered by small, enthusiastic, teams who bring a range of skills to each subject. The Subject Leader will also contribute to the Sixth Form ‘Be Life Ready’ programme.

The PSHE curriculum is regularly reviewed to ensure that the needs of pupils are met, and students are prepared for life after Belvedere. We pride ourselves on offering a planned, yet agile, curriculum which goes beyond the National Curriculum and reflects local and national needs as well as responding to pupil voice.

Citizenship follows the Edexcel syllabus, and yields excellent results. Students benefit from learning more about the world around them, and how their participation can make a difference in society.

PSHE and Citizenship lessons are valued at Belvedere by pupils, staff and families. Pupils love to discuss and are very invested in this part of their education. The Subject Lead has always made a significant contribution to our Subject Leaders’ group and to whole academy conversations around the curriculum. They also work with Heads of Year and the wider Pastoral and Safeguarding teams in order to ensure continuity between the curriculum, form time and assembly activities.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to have a real impact on the personal development of our pupils.

Our Pastoral Team includes Heads of Year, three Learning Mentors, a safeguarding team of five DSLs, a Family Liaison Officer, two SENCOs and our Teaching Assistants and key members of the SLT. As Subject Leader for PSHE and Citizenship, you will be able to link in with these staff to ensure that the curriculum remains current and impactful.

The ability to teach a humanities subject at KS3 would be desirable.

Belvedere was the first independent school to become an academy and is continuing the traditions and standards of its predecessor school. We were judged outstanding in all areas by Ofsted in January 2015. We have high expectations of all our students and we support them with excellent pastoral care. Our extensive enrichment programme allows students to develop into well rounded individuals.
