Portfolio Payroll

Portfolio Payroll are supporting a respected organisation in Liverpool who are looking to appoint a Payroll Specialist on a long-term fixed-term contract. This role sits within a supportive Payroll and People Services function and would suit someone confident across the full payroll cycle who enjoys delivering an accurate, compliant and customer-focused service.


About the Role

Working as part of a collaborative HR & Payroll team, you'll take ownership of monthly payrolls, maintain high-quality data, and ensure employees are paid correctly and on time. You'll also support statutory reporting, pension administration, and continuous improvement across payroll processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-end payroll across multiple monthly cycles
  • Interpreting, checking and inputting payroll documentation, expenses, timesheets and overtime
  • Technical payroll advice to staff and managers
  • GDPR, HMRC, pensions and statutory requirements
  • Month-end & year-end reconciliations and reporting
  • Pension administration multiple schemes including auto-enrolment
  • Statutory documents P45s, P60s, maternity/paternity/shared parental calculations
  • Cross-team collaboration with HR and wider People Services


Ideal Candidate

  • Strong understanding of statutory payroll requirements
  • Confident administering pension schemes and reconciliations
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables)
  • Comfortable communicating complex payroll information
  • Strong customer mindset and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Experience with HR & Payroll systems desirable
  • Knowledge of NHS pay/pensions or international payrolls beneficial
