The Opportunity

A global manufacturing organisation is looking to appoint a Regional Engineering Leader to provide senior technical leadership across a network of manufacturing sites in Europe and internationally.

This is a highly technical, engineering-led position rather than a traditional site-based management role.

You will act as a subject matter expert across manufacturing equipment, engineering strategy and capital investment, working with sites to solve complex equipment and process challenges, evaluate new technologies and shape the engineering direction of major future investments.

The role will suit a mechanically biased engineer who has spent significant time working with complex manufacturing machinery and who understands how to translate operational requirements into robust engineering solutions.

You will have the opportunity to influence major capital investments, including projects in excess of £10m, from the early technical evaluation and equipment-selection stages through to implementation.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Provide senior engineering expertise to manufacturing sites across a global network.
  • Act as a technical authority on manufacturing equipment, machinery and engineering solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical and equipment-related problems, working directly with site engineering and operations teams.
  • Evaluate existing machinery and processes and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, capacity and performance.
  • Advise on the selection, specification and introduction of new manufacturing equipment.
  • Provide technical input into significant capital investment programmes, including major projects exceeding £10m.
  • Challenge equipment specifications, engineering proposals and supplier solutions to ensure they are technically robust and fit for purpose.
  • Lead or support technical assessments for new technologies, product introductions and major manufacturing projects.
  • Work closely with major equipment manufacturers and engineering suppliers as a senior technical contact.
  • Support the development of long-term engineering and manufacturing strategies across multiple sites.
  • Share engineering best practice across the wider manufacturing network.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers across different locations.
  • Bring together internal and external technical specialists when particularly complex engineering issues arise.
  • Support continuous improvement and the optimisation of manufacturing assets and processes.

The Manufacturing Environment

The successful candidate will have strong experience within pharmaceutical manufacturing and should understand the engineering requirements associated with a range of manufacturing technologies.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced engineering professional who combines deep mechanical engineering expertise with strong commercial and strategic judgement.

You are likely to have:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 6+ years’ experience within a pharmaceutical environment.
  • A strong mechanical engineering bias and substantial experience with manufacturing machinery.
  • Experience providing engineering leadership across complex manufacturing sites
  • Experience influencing significant capital expenditure and equipment investment decisions.
  • Experience specifying, selecting, evaluating or commissioning complex manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving capability.
  • Experience working with equipment OEMs, engineering suppliers and technology providers.
  • The credibility to challenge technical decisions and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively across different cultures and geographical locations.
  • A willingness to travel internationally, potentially up to around 30% of the time.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to move beyond the traditional boundaries of a site engineering role.

Rather than owning one plant or one engineering function, you'll have the opportunity to influence engineering strategy across an international manufacturing network.

You'll be involved at the point where major engineering decisions are made, helping determine what equipment is required, how it should be designed, where investment should be made and how complex technical problems should be solved.

For an engineer who enjoys machinery, major capital projects and solving difficult technical problems, this provides genuine scope to make a global impact.

If you are a mechanically biased engineering leader with significant pharmaceutical manufacturing experience and you're looking for a role where your technical expertise can influence major international investments, we'd be very interested in speaking with you.
