Financial Controller

Liverpool | £55,000-65,000 + Bonus and Benefits | Hybrid Working

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a Qualified Financial Controller to join a rapidly expanding £25m-turnover e-commerce business in Merseyside - on track to grow to £50m in the next 3 years through ongoing UK growth and expansion into European territories. As the number two in finance in the business, you will report directly to the Head of Finance, leading a finance team of two and work closely with the senior leadership team. Whilst focussed on Statutory, Financial Accounting and Tax aspects of the business, this is a broad role working very closely with the Head of Finance with exposure to all financial aspects of the business. Key responsibilities will include:

• Ownership of the month-end and year-end financial close.
• Monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
• Maintaining robust balance sheet controls and reconciliations.
• Monitoring cash flow, working capital and key financial performance indicators.
• Overseeing the accounting for revenue, stock, cost of sales, landed costs and other transactions.
• Support the budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling process.
• Financial analysis and providing insight to budget holders/senior management to support commercial decisions.
• Monitoring stock and stock accounting across warehouses and third-party logistics providers.
• Responsibility for the company’s day-to-day tax compliance requirements.
• Preparing and reviewing UK VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
• Managing VAT requirements relating to international e-commerce and cross-border transactions.
• Supporting the preparation and submission of corporation tax returns.
• Work closely with external tax advisers on corporation tax and other tax matters.
• Reviewing the tax implications of new markets, sales channels and business structures.
• Supporting international VAT, customs duty and transfer pricing requirements where applicable.
• Leading the annual external audit process.
• Coordinating the preparation of statutory financial statements.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and statutory requirements.
• Management and development of the finance team.
• Business Partner with Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain and Sales teams.
• Supporting strategic projects, including system implementations, new market launches and new market exploration.

The successful candidate

• Fully Qualified CIMA, ACA or ACCA status (Late stage active studiers will also be considered)
• Experience working in a Financial Controller or Senior Finance position.
• Experience within e-commerce, retail or a multi-channel consumer business preferred.
• Strong knowledge of UK VAT and corporation tax.
• Experience managing external audits.
• Strong understanding of statutory accounts and financial reporting.
• Experience with international VAT and cross-border transactions.
• Strong Excel and financial modelling skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and financial accuracy.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A proactive approach to identifying risks and improving processes.

Salary and benefits

• Salary of £50,000-60,000 (possibly some flexibility)
• Performance-related bonus
• 25 days’ holiday
• 5% pension contribution
• Flexible working around core hours of 10am – 4pm
• Hybrid working: four days in the office and one day from home
