Description

Health and safety

· Act as the group's competent person under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, advising directors and site managers on legal duties.

· Maintain the group health and safety policy, arrangements and site-specific procedures, reviewing them at least annually.

· Manage the risk assessment programme across all four sites: machinery, welding fume, manual handling, working at height, lifting operations, noise, vibration and COSHH.

· Ensure statutory inspections and examinations are scheduled and recorded, including LOLER, PUWER, pressure systems, LEV (COSHH Regulation 9) and electrical testing.

· Lead investigation of accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences, identify root causes and track corrective actions to closure.

· Oversee health surveillance (noise, HAVS, welding fume, skin) and occupational health referrals.

· Manage contractor control, permits to work and site induction

Quality

· Own the group's ISO 9001 quality management system: document control, internal audit programme, management review, corrective and preventive action.

· Maintain other certifications held by the group or its customers' requirements, such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, BS EN 1090 factory production control and ISO 3834 welding quality requirements.

· Manage external certification and surveillance audits, and lead the response to any nonconformities raised.

· Oversee welding quality: welding procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualifications (WPQR), welder approvals and NDT/MPI records.

· Manage customer complaints and returns, leading 8D or equivalent root cause analysis with the operations teams.

· Support supplier quality, including approval, performance monitoring and material certification traceability.

· Track the cost of poor quality (scrap, rework, warranty) and support margin improvement work at each site.

Environmental

· Maintain environmental compliance across all sites, including waste duty of care, waste transfer records, trade effluent and spill control.

· Hold or manage environmental permits and registrations where applicable.

· Support carbon reporting, energy reduction and customer sustainability requests.

Training, culture and reporting

· Maintain the group SHEQ training matrix and deliver toolbox talks, inductions and refresher training.

· Coach site managers and supervisors so SHEQ is owned locally, not just by the SHEQ function.

· Run a regular safety walk and audit schedule at every site.

· Produce monthly SHEQ reports for the COO and exec board, with KPIs, trends, risks and actions.

· Keep up to date with changes in legislation and standards and brief the business on their impact.
