Lead a Business-Critical Pharmaceutical Project
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead a high-profile, business-critical capital project within a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
This is not a routine project delivery role. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving a technically complex programme that is strategically important to the site's future operations, requiring strong engineering expertise, exceptional stakeholder management skills, and the ability to deliver under demanding regulatory and operational constraints.
As such, we are specifically looking for individuals who have successfully delivered technically challenging, business-critical projects within a manufacturing environment, ideally within the pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, or other highly regulated industries.
The Role
You will take ownership of major capital projects from concept through to commissioning and handover, ensuring delivery against safety, quality, budget, and schedule objectives. Working across engineering, production, maintenance, quality, validation, and external contractors, you will play a key role in ensuring project success while maintaining the highest GMP and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage strategic capital projects within a GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
- Develop project proposals, feasibility studies, and robust cost estimates for management approval.
- Manage tendering activities, contractor selection, and contract administration.
- Develop and review User Requirement Specifications (URS) and detailed technical specifications.
- Take ownership of project budgets, schedules, risk registers, and resource planning.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary internal teams and external engineering partners.
- Ensure compliance with GMP requirements, Health & Safety legislation, and CDM Regulations.
- Support commissioning, qualification, validation, and operational handover activities.
- Deliver clear project reporting through dashboards, presentations, and stakeholder updates.
- Mentor and support engineers within the wider project engineering team.
What We're Looking For
- Degree-qualified in Chemical, Mechanical, or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.
- Proven experience managing projects within a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrable success delivering business-critical and technically complex engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, validation, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience managing contractors and construction activities under CDM Regulations.
- Commercial expertise including tendering, procurement, and contract management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong leadership capability with experience influencing cross-functional teams.
Essential Experience
Candidates must have experience delivering technically challenging, business-critical projects within a manufacturing environment.
This role requires someone who understands the realities of delivering complex projects where production continuity, regulatory compliance, product quality, and operational performance are all critical considerations.
Previous project management experience within a GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing environment is essential.
Why Apply?
- Lead a strategically important project with significant site impact.
- Work on complex engineering challenges within a highly regulated environment.
- Join an organisation investing heavily in its manufacturing operations and future growth.
- Take ownership of projects that directly influence business performance, operational capability, and regulatory compliance.
If you have a track record of delivering complex engineering projects within manufacturing environments and are looking for an opportunity to work on a genuinely business-critical programme, we would like to hear from you.
